This report is prepared based on the results of activities performed in Russia on development of energy desalination complexes with different reactor plants. The activities were aimed at development of conceptual designs for energy desalination complexes (EDC) and evaluation of the EDC from technical-economic point of view, commercial attractiveness and economic efficiency based on such reactor plants as KLT-40S, GT-MHR, distillation, reverse osmosis and hybrid desalination plants.
The projects cover the activities on the following fields:
- development of the structure and diagram solutions on coupling of KLT-40S, GT-MHR with desalination plants
- determination of nuclear desalination complexes efficiency and costs for their construction and operation
- analysis of technical and economic properties of nuclear desalination complexes
- optimization of design solutions, efficiency and economic characteristics of nuclear desalination complexes.
The activities had the following objectives:
- evaluation and selection of advanced desalination technologies to be coupled with different reactor plants
- development of the schemes of reactor plants and selected desalination plants coupling
- evaluation and updating of the existing methodology and computer codes for calculation of technical and economic characteristics of nuclear desalination complexes.
The report contains the basic results of investigations being performed by the present moment related to dual-purpose EDC with different types of desalination plants with reactor plants as KLT-40S, GT-MHR.
