LAST MINUTE INFORMATION
General status
We are currently dealing with the last details of the planning such as recruiting additional volunteers and finalising contracts with food providers.
Participants
As of 2002-02-28, the number of runners based on definite registrations and preliminary advance information is almost 350. Our estimate is that the final number will exceed 400, which is in line with the originally planning.
Overall organisation
Note that coverage of the Swedish organisation is from pick-up upon arrival to Sweden 15/5 and until the close-out dinner in Gothenburg 17/5.
Team arrival
Note that the welcome dinner and accommodation 15/5 will all take place in the city of Malmoe.
The welcome dinner will be at conference center "Europaporten" and the accommodation on the
neighbour "Hotel Ibis". Due to this arrangement, teams can get their rooms on Hotel Ibis on arrival to Malmoe,
and will then be in the right place with no further transportation needed for the first evening.
Team registration
Team registration will be at Europaporten from 17:00, and the dinner will start 19:00.
Round-trip flight:
There are two possibilities to arrange a round-trip flight:
- Arrival to Copenhagen airport. A train shuttle over the bridge can take you to the train station in Malmoe.
A round trip ticket Copenhagen airport - Malmoe railway station will be approximately 14 USD. The trip will take
35 minutes (one way) and there is three departures every hour during the day and one per hour during the night.
If you will arrive this way, please let us know the flight number and preferred pick-up time at Malmoe station.
- Arrival to Gothenburg airport. The transportation back to the airport after the event can in this case be
done with the regular airport buses from Gothenburg City. Pick-up with buses provided by the Swedish MM
organisation can then be done in Gothenburg 15/5. We need of course also in this case flight number and arrival
time. The time needed for bus transport Gothenburg airport - Malmoe is 4 hours.
Accommodations
Before:
For teams who will arrive early, nights before 15/5 can be reserved at the same hotel, Hotel Ibis, in Malmoe. This will be at your own expense and should be paid for at the Hotel --as far as possible with one payment per team (especially for large teams). The rates are 685 SEK (appr. 65 USD) for a double room and 640 SEK (appr. 61 USD) for a single room.
After:
Rooms have been made available in Gothenburg at "Spar Hotel", at the rates 590 SEK (appr. 56 USD) for a double and 445 SEK (appr. 42 USD) for a single room. This would also be at your expense and will have to be payed at the hotel. The buses will be available to take care of transportation to this hotel after the gala dinner.
An option is to stay at the "Radisson SAS Hotel" in Gothenburg. This is the place where the gala dinner will be and it has a more central location. Rooms can be reserved at this hotel at the rate 100 USD per double room. We have not made any preliminary reservations at this hotel yet, since we believe the requests will be primarily for the cheaper alternative.
We wish to receive your requests for accommodations at the latest by the end of the registration period 2002-03-31. Teams may of course find other alternatives themselves.
During the race (May 16th):
Teams who would wish to find a hotel somewhere on the road for the night when that marathon is on-going, will find several possibilities. We will provide name and means of contact to some hotels, but we will not manage reservations. Each team may evaluate and determine themselves (with regard to their received scheme of running and number of people not being runners) if a hotel for this night shall be selected.
Team departure
As mentioned above, the MM2002 organisation will cover transportation (for teams without their own coach) until arrival to the hotel on Friday night (after the gala dinner). Depending on your flight there is two options (compare arrival above):
- Departure from Copenhagen. A bus from Gothenburg train station is available at the rate approximately 24 USD per person. This bus could be used to Malmoe station and then the train shuttle back to Copenhagen airport.
- Departure from Gothenburg. Use the airport bus, also with departure from the central train station.
Next step
Following the end of the registration period, 2002-03-31, the detailed program and running schemes will be elaborated. Information to the teams on the specific schedule and confirmation of rooms etc. will be sent out in middle/late April.
Tourist information in Sweden
A summary of suggestions in Malmoe, Gothenburg and in-between (for possible stops between the running stages of your team) will also be provided.
